I'm in the same boat as Anthony on this one. I've gone the route of merging my entrepreneurial and social life: ideation sessions at nearby pubs, networking lunches, and Startup Saturdays in coffee shops.

@Nate: Yeah, I've always felt there's no reason you can't mix business and pleasure together. Having a good time with someone creates a bond that's tighter than any Starbucks meeting can muster. Being generous is always a good idea, and as you say, just helping other people out will usually get you the same in return and connect you to a lot of people.

@JEDR12: Haha, well I wouldn't usually tell people to take drugs (I don't myself, I'm just around people who do more often than you'd think), but dancing definitely and drinking within reason. That being said, the last thing you want to do is make an ass of yourself, or be the person everyone else has to take care of. That's a great way to make enemies and have people pity you or see you as a burden, rather than making connections with them.

@Kristin: Who said it was coke? Oh yeah, you visited Buenos Aires...what you say is true though: if you have the confidence to just be yourself and have a good time, people will be attracted to that (on many levels, but I'm talking about the friendship, 'I want to be around this person' aspect right now). When others feel they can be themselves around you, too, you're allowing for the start of a long and strong relationship.

I've also made my best business connections at coke parties in foreign countries! (kidding...)

Great suggestions on getting out there. Most people, I've found, are interested in getting to know the guy (or girl) who is least afraid to make a fool of themselves. If you can be comfortable with that, almost anyone else will be, too.
